Tree of Life

"The Tree of Life" is Victor's depiction of Adam and Eve, the eternal couple. In the center of the painting, a blossoming apple tree is shown as the Tree of Life. On the surface of a table in front of the tree are an apple blossom, an apple, and Adam and Eve, formed from the nectar of the apple. ( Adam was formed first, and is shown as already separated from the apple; Eve is still in the process of forming.) Thus Victor shows that the various manifestations of the tree of Life are related to each other, continuously changing one into the other. The apple blossoms will turn into apples, and humanity also is interconnected with the other forms of life. As an apple tree draws its sustanance from sunlight, so all of the manifestations of the Tree of Life get their life force from the universal divine source, depicted as the light of the sun. The branches of the Tree of Life reach upwards toward the divine light. Adam and Eve, male and female, are the complementary opposites of ech other; thus Victor uses the complementary opposite colors of red and green as the basic colors of the painting.
