The Butterfly

This painting represents the eternal attraction of male and female, heaven and earth. Within a soft landscape we see a woman sleeping. She is formed of plants and earth, mother nature. The water is also a symbol of the intuitive, feminine principle, as is the moon visible in the sky.

In her dreams, the woman is visited by the butterfly, the soul of a man, also, a messenger from heaven. The boatsman, male and active, also draws closer to the dreaming woman. More boats (phallic symbols) line the shore across from the woman. And in the sky, more butterflies are attracted and draw closer, in the eternal dance of male and female energy.
