Within this bouquet of exquisite roses, faces from three generations of a family can be seen. In the roses at the far right of the painting are the faces of the grandfather and grandmother. Further left within the bouquet are the faces of the young couple, engaged in a kiss. A baby gazes upward from the rose furthest to the left. Thus the generations of a family are depicted as roses, eternal symbols of purity.
On the table to the left of the bouquet is an ancient holy book, symbol of the spiritual knowledge which has been given to this family, and passed down through the many generations. The candle on the book represents the spirit of truth and sacred illumination, with which this family has also been blessed. In front of the bouquet are two apples. According to Irish legend, the apple is the fruit that represents immortality.
